Majesty Hope: FISP Graduate Spotlight

Community, Trailblazing, Easy learning—ISAIC In a Nutshell

Graduates of the Fundamentals of Industrial Sewing and Production (FISP) are soaring! Take it from Majesty Hope, a current apparel intern in the sports athletics department at New Balance in Boston. Read through her journey to learn more about how she used FISP as the foundation for launching her career in the fashion industry.

Majesty, a Detroit native, has “always loved crafting and making things.” She received her first sewing machine in ninth grade when her love for making clothes really took off, and even made her prom dress. She stumbled upon FISP as she describes, “I was looking to go into manufacturing for my own business and I thought it was a good fit”, after her friends told her about ISAIC.

She applied for the program through the Michigan Women’s Forward partnership with ISAIC where she learned the business fundamentals and marketing aspects of running her business through MI Women’s Forward and the production techniques to scale her craftsmanship at the industrial manufacturing level at ISAIC.

Her biggest takeaway from FISP was industrial and production sewing is opposite to sewing on home machines. At FISP she gained new view on production sewing, thinking on a larger scale than one garment, and acquiring the knowledge for best practices. Majesty says, “ISAIC was the first stepping stone into the snowball effect that led me to where I am this year. I love Katie and Olivia... I still feel the community.”

Today, Majesty is an apparel intern at New Balance within the women’s department and sports athletics where she supports the design team.

For those who are looking for inspiration and advice, Majesty notes, “my biggest advice is - even if you don't have any sewing experience, it's a very easy beginning learning experience. And I think that even if you want to try to do sewing on your own or go into actual manufacturing, it's a good program. Take your time and just ease into it - the instructors are amazing."
