DeepHow Strengthens ISAIC Training

DeepHow, strengthens ISAIC’s ability to provide high-quality training to our production floor. Our lead training developer, Cassie, explains “DeepHow is an artificial intelligence powered video learning platform, which is usually used in manufacturing for service technicians and repairs.” AI is used to annotate videos and translate annotations into other languages. DeepHow has few limitations to create educational content for any purpose.

Particularly, Cassie uses it to capture and edit video content for training purposes. DeepHow is used in tandem with custom-made, written work instructions. ISAIC recognizes the importance of providing training to meet the needs of diverse learners, which is why we use both written work instructions with photos and DeepHow videos for a step-by-step visual process on how to produce a product from start to finish. Currently we have over 120 videos for processes such as; how to hem a garment, quality control, machine maintenance, etc.

In DeepHow, Cassie categorizes training by company; then, she further segments training by product. Operators can access the catalog of training and choose which part of the product to train on. For example, if a new apprentice is struggling with sewing the crown on a beanie—they can refer to a DeepHow video for support. Sewing the crown is ISAIC’s most watched video and the hardest step of the production process for operators. The video is 2.5 minutes long and has been viewed by 50 people for a combined total of 1 hour and 15 minutes.

The benefit of having on-demand training for any employee is that it takes the pressure off journey workers to answer frequent questions an apprentice or sewist may have in the training process. This way, they can focus on meeting their production goals, and ensure that every apprentice receives the same training. Additionally, we can capture the knowledge of experienced journey workers and turn their wisdom into training that will infinitely serve current and future operators. The tool is also configured to meet the needs of English as a second language learners, as the transcript and video subtitles can be translated to over 25 different languages. A production floor can be a high noise level environment, so the subtitles also help viewers follow along, never missing an instruction and eliminating the possibility of miscommunication.

The benefit of DeepHow extends beyond ISAIC’s production floor to our manufacturing partners, who can access the training to become skilled in operating a machine or producing a product. As a case in point, a company that recently purchased a Tukatech laser cutting machine needs help training their operators to utilize the machine. Cassie can send a QR code for their team members to access training videos to strengthen their onboarding process.

Deephow is an all-encompassing video learning platform that helps us save time and money to improve our training tactics. It is truly a problem-solving tool for visual learners to take advantage of to boost their confidence in operating at the highest standard!
